Hi everyone,

Sorry I haven’t updated this blog in a long time, it’s hard to find time to sit down and write about whats going on when I’m so caught up in everything that IS going on! Following me on Twitter is probably the best bet for the time being: http://twitter.com/guy_andrews

Anyway, in my last mail out on the iambic mailing list I mentioned that I’d be releasing my first two albums again in high quality wav format through my website at the start of 2010. This is still the case, but things have been delayed as I’m trying to finish off my degree, write a new album and sort out a tour for 2010. I can ensure that the albums ARE coming soon and that they will be bundled with a brand new b-side album of post-rock tunes I have written, just so I can release all my older stuff that doesn’t really represent the sound I’m pushing nowadays. It would be a shame for them to just sit on my HD and collect cyberdust!

I’ve got some big news to announce soon regarding a very special side project that’ll please all fans of ‘Under These Stars, We’ll Sleep Again’ and my more ambient works, so the best thing to do is sign up to my mailing list on the front page of www.iambicmusic.com and sit tight for now. Thanks to everyone for their support, 2010 is set to be an exciting one!!

Hi everyone,

If you’re reading this and have no idea what last.fm is then I suggest you head over to www.last.fm and take a look. It’s basically a website that gathers information about what people listen to based on a little application that attaches itself to your media player and submits playlist data to their server. It’s also a really handy platform for us artists when discovering what people’s favourite tracks are.

Now as I’ve changed my artist name to just iambic rather than iambic², the page last.fm created for iambic² is technically out of date. So to help sort this out, I need everyone to simply rename the artist tag on all their mp3’s of mine to iambic rather than iambic².

It shouldn’t take too long to do and will help me out a load!

Thanks!

Guy

Christmas is here again, the time of year when stupid amount of money are spent on stuff that soon ends up on ebay. I remember once I got a mens fragrance kit from a neighbour, it consisted of some aftershave type stuff and some deodorant. Needless to say it smelt of chemicals, but to top it off the name of it was ‘Cat Suit’ which I found pretty hilarious.

Anyway, just wanted to wish everyone a happy christmas and an even happier new year. I have decided to give everyone who reads my site a free mp3, it’s an unreleased track called The Ice, The Sun, The Dew and it’s my longest ever track clocking in at 16minutes! It was originally intended years ago for some clothing company, but they decided to rip me off so I withdrew all my tracks from their project.

Image/Object recognition to control sequencers like Live or Logic. RARRR!! I got it working today and once I’ve made the prototype recognition surface for the objects I am going to try and use it to construct my live laptop sets. That’s if the cost of it doesn’t go through the roof.

I’m also going to be experimenting with touch screens to see what kind of cool stuff I can come up with.

Oooarrr the pirates have seized my EP!

Turns out some people decided to put my latest EP ‘Move’ onto a website for free download. I feel there is no point in even trying to fight against people pirating my music as it won’t get anywhere. All I can say is that if you want me to carry on making music then PLEASE support me by buying the release off iTunes, Amazon (US only) or Napster. On iTunes the entire release only costs £3.16 so please, if you like it – buy it.

It raises a really interesting question as to why people think music should be free in the first place? I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently and as a person who fully supports both free music via Creative Commons and paid for releases (by independent artists/labels mainly) I feel I have a fairly unbiased approach to it. I reckon it’s just because the general public are simply not aware of the huge amount of effort, energy and money independent artists have to put in nowadays to releasing their music.

A lot of artists (even some fairly established ones) are going DIY now, including myself. This means that the artist handles everything from admin work like sorting manufacturing, distribution, promotion, organising tour dates, creating and managing a full live band (in my case), handling accounts, handling royalties, plugging releases to radio stations/magazines, organising artwork for releases, organising mastering, merchandise, mailing lists etc etc etc and then on top of all this; making the actual music.

Then someone comes along and steals your music because they don’t feel like they have to pay for your hard work.

I can also see why people want music for free and I am flattered that people want my music to the extent that they will take distribution into their own hands and post it up on blogs, torrent sites and so on; albeit in an illegal manor. I understand that a lot of people don’t support the iTunes music store, I don’t much either due to the constriants it imposes on its products, but the only reason I am plugging it so heavily is that is one of the most widely used audio players and integrates really well with web links. On the plus side, the ordering process is dead simple and they take a minimal cut from the sales (think it’s around 17p).

Some may ask why I decided to start charging for my releases. To put it simply, being a full time uni student and making electronic music is hard. Gear costs so much (that’s another rant) that a lot of us struggle to afford anything by NI, Apple or so on. Out of principle, I do not use pirated software so I make do without a lot of stuff (buying Reaktor 5 was the best thing I ever did). The problem comes when you try to buy gear for the live shows on a student budget. This is why I set up iambic music to release the Move EP so I could get an income to pump straight back into my music.

Anyway, please buy my EP. haha!
Buy on iTunes for only £3.16!!!
